We need volunteers from all ages and walks of life to:
• Give presentations in schools
• Recruit schools for our programme of talks
• Manage our communications – print, website, Facebook, Twitter
• Look after our finances
• Manage our charity as trustees
• Help out at our events
For example:
You will present to groups of students both in primary and secondary schools. You could be working with pupils aged between 5 and 18. Sometimes we present to teachers too.
Presentations last about 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions. There is a set Power Point presentation which you will use as your guide but of course your own style and speed will vary.
There will be a time slot that the school have organized for your presentation to take place in. You will have plenty of opportunity to practice your presentation before the first time you deliver to a school.
Classes average between 20 and 30 pupils. All materials will be provided by the Alex Curtis Memorial Trust.
You will receive training before you present for the first time. We hold volunteer training days training in which you will learn all the relevant information about the Trust, about Asthma and about presenting - you will also be invited to attend a presentation delivered by another volunteer to get a good idea of the process.
We ask volunteers to commit to at least one presentation a month as an active volunteer or if you would like to be on the ‘back up’ list for occasional presentations please let us know.
We need to spread the message about living healthily with asthma, to schools. So we need volunteers to approach schools and recruit them onto our programmes of talks.
You will identify schools in your ares – state primary , junior and secondary schools, independent schools, 6th Form colleges.
Liaising with reception and senior staff, you will arrange to meet and discuss the benefits from working with ACT – for the school, their pupils and parents and overall educational results.
You will recruit them direct onto presentation programmes with your local presenter volunteers. And can build their interest in our ‘Asthma Friendly Schools’ programme – developed in conjunction with Asthma Australia.
